The First Edition has for sale this wonderful early edition book of Uncle Tom’s Cabin
by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Published in 1852 in the same year as the First Edition,
by London: Thomas Bosworth, 215 Regent Street, this is the Author’s edition of this
classic, and a wonderful antiquarian book.
A note from the publisher reads as follows:
“The Publisher thinks it right to state, that the Authoress of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” has a direct interest in the sale of this Edition; and he trusts that this fact, together with the superior typography of the volume, and the lowness of the price, will be considered as giving it a higher claim to general patronage than is possessed by any other Edition published in this country.
August 14th, 1852”
The original publisher's dark green blind stamped boards with gilt titling and price to the spine. There is rubbing to the extremities of boards with fading and fraying to the top and bottom of the spine. These are an attractive set of boards
The book measures 5.25 x 7.75 inches (approx) and bears a contemporary signature to the Title Page; an armorial book plate; and pencil notes to a blank page to the front of the book
There are 489 printed pages plus: original yellow endpapers; 4 pages of the Thomas Bosworth catalogue to the front of the book; Title Page; 1 Page Advertisement To This Edition'; 2 Pages 'Contents'. Internal hinges are a little weak, but book’s pages are fully bound in
