The First Edition is selling this highly desirable and collectable Sherlock Holmes detective fiction first edition book, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle from 1894

Published by George Newnes Ltd on 13th December 1893 but dated 1894, this is the rare first edition in the original blue cloth bevelled boards with gilt lettering to the front and spine and the front board bearing the strand logo in black

The boards are in overall Very Good condition being complete with bright gilt lettering to the front board light marks to the front and back boards; corner and spine (top and bottom) wear; and darkening to the spine; and top hinge broken three quarters from the bottom in the gutter, but still securely attached to the rest of the book

There are 279 numbered pages, all edge gilt, with 90 black and white illustrations in the text by Sidney Paget, are very clean with marks to some pages, a presentation inscription to one of the blank pages in a very attractive hand dated 29th December 1893, some broken hinges but all pages bound in, and are in overall Very Good condition
